What happens after PPSC recommends you? Complete guide to the appointment process, merit list validity, DMC availability, probation period, substitute candidates, and whether non-Muslims can opt for Islamic Studies.
Congratulations - you've been recommended by PPSC! But what happens next? Many candidates are unsure about the appointment process, how long merit lists remain valid, or what happens if a recommended candidate doesn't join. This guide answers all the common post-recommendation questions.
After PPSC recommends a candidate, the process is:
Important: PPSC's role ends at recommendation. Appointment, training, and posting are entirely the responsibility of the concerned Department. Any queries about appointment timelines should be directed to the Department, not PPSC.
The merit list is valid for:
One year from the date of issuance of original recommendations - OR until the date of receipt of the next requisition in the Commission for the same post - whichever is earlier.
If a new requisition for similar posts is received specifically for Special Persons or Minorities within the one-year validity period:
DMC will remain available on the PPSC website for 30 days.
After this 30-day period:
Tip: Download and save your DMC immediately when it becomes available. Don't wait - once the 30-day window closes, it's gone.
The probation period differs based on the classification of the post:
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Maximum Duration | Up to 2 years |
| Extension | May be extended by the Competent Authority |
| Basis | Depends on the classification/grade of the post |
During probation, your performance is evaluated and you must demonstrate suitability for permanent retention in the post.
PPSC provides a substitute candidate from the same merit list in the following situations:
Critical Rule: A substitute candidate is provided only at the request of the Department - not at the request of any individual candidate.
Yes. Non-Muslim candidates may either opt for Islamic Studies or Ethics according to their choice.
This applies to all PPSC examinations where these subjects are part of the curriculum. Non-Muslim candidates have the freedom to choose whichever subject they are more comfortable with.
