Age eligibility is one of the first criteria checked for CSS candidates. Many aspirants are confused about the exact age limits, the cut-off date, and which categories qualify for relaxation. This guide covers all the official rules on age for the CSS Competitive Examination as per the CSS Competitive Examination Rules, 2019.
What is the Age Limit for CSS?
The age limits for appearing in the CSS Competitive Examination are:
- Minimum age: 21 years
- Maximum age: 30 years
These limits are calculated as of the cut-off date, which is 31st December of the year preceding the examination.
Example
If you are appearing in the CSS 2026 examination:
- Your age is calculated as of 31st December 2025
- You must be at least 21 years old on that date
- You must not be more than 30 years old on that date (without relaxation)
How is Your Date of Birth Determined?
FPSC accepts the date of birth from the following documents only:
- Matriculation certificate or Secondary School Certificate (SSC)
- GCE O-Level or equivalent certificate - if it mentions the date of birth
- If the GCE O-Level or equivalent certificate does not mention the date of birth:
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate along with a birth certificate issued by a Hospital or Municipal Committee
Important: No other documents (CNIC, passport, affidavit, etc.) are accepted for date of birth verification. The date recorded in your Matriculation certificate is final.
Who Qualifies for Age Relaxation?

Can You Combine Multiple Age Relaxations?
As per the CSS Competitive Examination Rules:

What is the Maximum Number of Attempts?
